1.0 What To Expect During the Installation Process
The first stage to an air con installation is a site survey. One of our friendly team will visit the premises to discuss your requirements and survey the property.
The site survey comprises of: measuring up, this along with taking details of the room/space use, allows us to calculate unit system size requirements sizes, drainage placement and pipework routes; we take a photograph the preferred unit site locations; and we will also discuss and agree outdoor unit site placement/ outdoor pipework enclosure types (where required). We also undertake a risk, electrical supply and access assessment, advising as required should there be any additional requirements for the install.
We survey 7 days a week and would expect most surveys to take between 30-45 minutes. For larger buildings or more complex installations, the survey time required may be a little longer. We will discuss longer appointment requirements on a case by case basis, helping to ensure that everyone has enough time available on the day.
The visiting engineer will follow up after the site survey by sending out a no obligation quotation. The quotation preparation usually takes around 2-3 days, and sometimes up to 5 days, depending on how many quote options have been specified/requested and how busy suppliers are. Each supplier has slightly different turnaround times for pricing information and during busy times such as the summer, can take a number of days to provide a written quote with stock availability and lead in time detail to us.
Quotes are emailed with indicative time frames, both for our availability and also the time it will take us to install your new air con system; and accompanying Terms & Conditions details. A follow up by a call a few days later is made to talk through the detail and any further questions you may have thought of.
Should you decide to proceed with your air con installation, we will agree a mutually convenient time to return to install your chosen system. We install 7 days a week and can also offer out of hours works where commercial premises are operational during the day.
The Air-Switch team will normally arrive at around 8.00 - 8.30 and will explain any safety or access requirements applicable before getting started. Where the job is planned for longer than one day, an indicative timeframe will be provided for each days work.
We can help to relocate furnishings whilst works are undertaken. Carpets and flooring in areas being worked on will be covered prior to works commencing.
Once the installation works are complete, the systems are tested and commissioned. We will run through how to use your system before we leave.
We will remove and dispose of waste in line with our waste management and environmental policies, recycling waste materials where feasible to do so.
We follow up each installation by emailing commissioning details and a quick recap on operating instructions. If we haven't already, we can provide you with a servicing quote. Maintaining your system and having an annual service can help to maintain the manufacturers parts warranty.
Around a week after installation, we will ring to see how you are getting on with using the system and whether we can help with any additional questions.
Where ongoing servicing has been requested, we diarise a further call for 11 months time to allow enough flex in everyone's diaries to book in the maintenance visit for around the time of the first year anniversary.
Post installation, we will also recap over the manufacturer parts warranty T&Cs and the one year workmanship warranty offered by Air-Switch Limited.
Flourinated gases are man made gases. There are four main types of gases, all of which can stay in the atmosphere for hundreds of years and contribute to global warming.
The F-Gas regulations have been put in place to better control the end to end use of F-Gases, mitigating against the risk of the gases being inappropriately discharged into the atmosphere and contributing towards global temperature rises.
Air-Switch is committed to protecting the environment and aims to exceed UK FGAS regulatory expectations and safety standards. We have strict procedures in place ensuring that we appropriately contain, use, recover and transport for destruction all regulated products.
When installing or servicing air-conditioning or air source heat pumps, we record:
• How much F-Gas is in the system on receipt;
• How much F-gas is added during installation, maintenance or servicing or due to leakage;
• the quantity of F-gases recovered during any of these processes;
• F-Gas gas leak testing compliance check results;
• where a system is decommissioned, actions applicable to the recovery and disposal of the F-gases.
The legal requirements for F-gas leak testing are currently only applicable to commercial installations.
This means that commercial installations must have regular leak testing and testing results must remain on your premises for five years. The records must be available for inspection if requested.
The environmental impact of the different gases varies. Our engineers will confirm your testing requirements during site inspections, ensuring that you meet the compliance standards for the amount and type of refrigerant you have.
We use comprehensive field management software with individual client portals. All assets can be tracked individually and all service and compliance records securely stored in the individual client/site portal.
Systems can become inefficient and unhygienic for a variety of reasons including environmental factors such as: being placed near a working kitchen; dusty environments such as being in a heavy traffic area or through scheduled maintenances being missed and other unforeseen circumstances.
Regular maintenance and cleaning can help prevent harmful bacterial build up and supports good hygiene, however, some systems will be working in environments where they are prone to bacterial and debris build up even when regularly serviced. Simple things like poor ventilation and a lack of fresh air foster the right environment for mould to grow in your system.
We offer a strip down and deep chemical cleaning service where required for both indoor and outdoor units. This level of clean will help to improve system performance, air flow and may help protect against the likelihood of mechanical failures. We use premium cleaning materials for both service and deep clean visits. Please ask for more information about this service.
Many comestic air conditioning units are heat pumps which are used to both heat and cool a room throughout the year.
Air-conditioning units are considered an energy saving material and is currently eligible for a reduced rate of 0% VAT on domestic installations between 1st April 2022 until 31st March 2027, or the ESM scheme is withdrawn.
This is one of the most commonly asked questions we receive.
Working out the room size is only part of the calculation requirement. When we install a new system, we also consider factors such as: solar gains, construction materials and occupancy.
